Why Tallow?

But first, what is tallow? Tallow is the rendered form of beef fat. For thousands of years, tallow has been used in both cooking and skincare. It wasn't until the late 1800's where traditional creams made from oils and fats were replaced by Vaseline (petroleum jelly). As the industrial revolution began, along with the mass production of goods, traditional methods were quickly lost and forgotten. But are these new modern creams what your skin actually needs?  These creams were created to mimic the nutrients found in natural moisturizes, such as tallow, but have you ever actually read the ingredient label of the lotions and soaps you use today? If not, we encourage you to research the chemicals included in your skincare products and reassess what you are putting on your skin.

Our products contain a short list of natural ingredients – oils found in nature that hydrate, nourish, and replenish your skin, restoring your skins natural oils. Using tallow consistently will provide noticeable improvements to your skin's hydration and elasticity.

Thanks to its unique composition and bioavailable nutrients, tallow serves as an ideal natural moisturizer that supports healthy, resilient skin. It closely mirrors the structure of our skin’s natural oils (sebum), making it highly compatible with the skin barrier and easily absorbed without clogging pores.

Why should you choose Head to Tail Tallow?

Many tallow products on the market are commercially deodorized, which can include bleaching, chemical oxidizing agents, or additives like butylated hydroxytoluene - not what you want to be putting on your skin.

Our tallow is carefully rendered from pure suet fat, which is the most nutrient-dense form of tallow. We render, strain, and cool the tallow 5 times prior to jarring to remove connective tissue and impurities.

Unscented tallow does have a distinct smell, but when high-quality suet is rendered properly, it smells mild and clean, not meaty.

At Head to Tail Tallow, we believe in the mindful, respectful use of the whole animal—and in harnessing the skin-nourishing power of beef tallow sourced from cattle raised on regenerative farms. Our products reflect our commitment to purity, sustainability, and the healing properties of nature’s original moisturizer.
