RE-CONNECTING HUMANS TO NATURE

From Personal Use to Passion Project.

MEET BRANDON

Why I Started Head to Tail Tallow

I’ve hated lotion my entire life. Every winter, my knuckles would crack and bleed because I couldn’t stand the slimy, slippery feeling left behind by traditional lotion.

The first time I used tallow, everything changed. It rubbed in smoothly, didn’t feel greasy, and most importantly, it actually worked. My hands stayed moisturized longer than they ever had with lotion, and my skin felt amazing. I did some research and found that tallow has been used on skin for thousands of years, with evidence dating tallow's use on skin in ancient Mesopotamia and Egypt. It wasn't until the last hundred years, with the rise of petroleum and mass production of synthetic lotions, that tallow was replaced by the mass-manufactured options that are now common today.

From Personal Use to Passion Project

When I tried to buy whipped tallow, I ran into two big problems. First, I couldn’t find a brand that offered pure, one-ingredient tallow. I was curious to try 100% tallow on my skin, but I couldn't find it anywhere. Second, I had no idea how those products were made. Were they rendered in non-stick cookware that could leach PFAS? Was the tallow actually sourced from regenerative, 100% grass-fed farms? Was the tallow commercially bleached and deodorized? If I was going to use something on my skin every day, I needed to know exactly what was in it, and how it was made. So, I started making it myself. That’s how Head to Tail Tallow was born.

My Skin

When I first started using whipped tallow, I focused on my face and hands. Later, I read about its potential to help with skin issues like eczema, psoriasis, and keratosis pilaris.

I’ve had keratosis pilaris on the backs of my arms my whole life – those tiny red bumps that just never go away. Dermatologist-prescribed soaps and lotions didn’t help, so I learned to live with it. But once I started applying tallow regularly, I noticed a change. My skin felt softer. The bumps and redness started to fade and the texture smoothed out. I searched online to see if others had similar experiences with tallow and found countless anecdotes of shared experience. Using tallow regularly changed the way I thought about skincare.

Thoughtfully Made, From Start to Finish

My health is a top priority, and I’m incredibly intentional about what goes in and on my body. That same level of care is behind everything we do at Head to Tail Tallow.

We go beyond sourcing from 100% grass-fed, regenerative farms. We receive our tallow as raw unadulturated beef suet, which we render and strain five times to ensure our tallow is as pure and nutrient dense as possible. This timely process cleans and separates the liquid tallow from the meat particles, connective tissue, and other impurities present in the raw form. As the tallow cools, it is then whipped in stainless steel bowls, piped into glass jars, and packaged in biodegradable, eco-friendly materials. Every detail matters – from farm, to jar, to your doorstep.
